Working with us

Working with Localised allows councils, enterprises and communities to leverage their in depth experience of the community resource recovery sector.

Localised has the governance structure, management capability, and financial support to be able to grow at pace over the next five years bringing structure, a consistent approach to operations including Health & Safety to help councils and communities with their waste management and minimisation.

Working with councils

Localised’s model is designed to make things as easy as possible for local authorities to achieve ‘broader outcomes’. The benefits include:

  • Community-led enterprise with local benefits

  • Reassurance of having an experienced partner to provide hands on capability development

  • Multi-function sites that are able to grow with the community’s needs.

Our impact

Our work in local communities is making an impact enabling communities to build their capability and diverting more and more waste from landfill.

  • 33 not-for-profits in rural Rodney have been supported

  • 141 not-for-profits in urban Auckland have been supported through Localised and Localised joint ventures.

Our community’s experiences

  • “We were the locals, we had the vision, the passion and the support of our community. However, we had absolutely no idea how to run a community recycling centre. We knew we needed help from somewhere but were aware that this meant someone taking on considerable risk for us. Localised came with the knowledge and systems to make it all happen. It has been an awesome partnership.”

Trish Allen, Mahurangi Wastebusters Founding Director and Education Manager

  • “It is hard to scale when you’re a small not-for-profit bootstrapping everything. Localised was able to provide us with invaluable advice, experience and things out of our reach, including access to an asset base needed for taking on a lease. It wouldn’t have been possible without Localised. They’re playing a unique and important role enabling community zero waste enterprises to become sustainable and scalable.”

    — Kate Walmsley, Kaicycle Compost Manager

  • “We rely solely on revenue through the sales of second-hand furniture, homeware and clothing. Having access to items otherwise destined for landfill has been a godsend for The Collective.”

    — Louise Clark, Founder of The Collective, one of 69 community collectors supported through the Zero Waste Hubs

  • “Localised was the perfect fit for us in terms of our vision and kaupapa. They empowered us to understand the RFP tendering process and brought the technical expertise to the table. Our staff enjoy their staff and vice versa and we all value what each other bring.”

    — Ron Muavae, Synergy Manager & Onehunga Zero Waste Managing Director
